Best Primary Schools in Each Region of Singapore

How We Define "Best"

There is no single definition of the "best" primary school — every family has different priorities. In this guide, we highlight schools that are consistently high-demand (as evidenced by P1 registration data), that offer distinctive programmes (SAP, GEP, special languages), or that have strong community reputations. We also include some excellent schools that fly under the radar and offer a high-quality education without the competition stress of the most famous names.

Central Region

The Central region has the highest concentration of top primary schools in Singapore, including many SAP and GEP-centre schools.

Nanyang Primary School

Consistently ranked among Singapore's most sought-after primary schools. Nanyang Primary offers both the GEP and Higher Chinese (SAP), making it the top choice for families who prize academic excellence and bilingual education. Phase 2C regularly ballots with very limited vacancies.

Ai Tong School

Ai Tong School in Bishan is one of Singapore's nine SAP primary schools. It has a reputation for strong academic outcomes and active co-curricular programmes. Heavily oversubscribed in most phases.

Catholic High School (Primary)

A boys' SAP and GEP-centre school in Bishan. Catholic High (Primary) has a long history of academic excellence and strong alumni connections. Phase 2A2 sees significant demand from alumni families.

Raffles Girls' Primary School

One of Singapore's most prestigious girls' schools and a GEP centre. RGPS in Grange Road is highly competitive across all phases and is linked to Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) through the Direct School Admission system.

Hidden Gem: Queenstown Primary School

A well-regarded neighbourhood school in the mature Queenstown estate. It offers a nurturing environment with less competition than Central's flagship schools — a good option for families who prioritise community over prestige.

North Region

The North includes established schools in Yishun, Sembawang, Woodlands, and Ang Mo Kio, alongside some newer schools serving the growing population in Sembawang and Woodlands.

Chongfu School

Chongfu School in Yishun is one of Singapore's SAP schools, with strong bilingual education and active cultural programmes. It is among the North's most competitive primary schools.

Yio Chu Kang Primary School

A well-established school in Ang Mo Kio with consistent academic results and a broad CCA offering. Less oversubscribed than Central schools, making it a practical choice for North families.

Hidden Gem: Endeavour Primary School

A newer school in Sembawang with modern facilities and a learner-centred approach. Enrolment is less competitive than older established schools, giving families a good chance of securing a place.

East Region

The East has a mix of prestigious heritage schools and popular neighbourhood schools, with Bedok, Tampines, and Marine Parade among the most active housing areas.

Tao Nan School

Tao Nan School in Marine Parade is both a SAP school and a GEP centre — a rare combination. It has one of Singapore's strongest academic traditions and a large alumni network. Phase 2A demand is high due to the SAP alumni base.

CHIJ (Katong) Primary

A well-regarded mission school for girls in the Katong area. It draws consistent demand from Catholic families and alumni. The school has a strong emphasis on character education alongside academics.

Temasek Primary School

A popular co-ed school in Bedok with strong academic results and a broad range of CCAs. Regularly sees Phase 2C applicants from the large Bedok residential catchment.

Hidden Gem: Bedok Green Primary School

A neighbourhood school in Bedok with less competition than Temasek or Tao Nan. Offers a supportive learning environment and is a practical choice for Bedok families seeking a quality school without the Phase 2C lottery.

West Region

The West is home to Henry Park Primary — one of Singapore's hardest schools to get into — as well as several strong neighbourhood schools in Jurong, Clementi, and Buona Vista.

Henry Park Primary School

Henry Park Primary in Buona Vista is the West's most sought-after school and a GEP centre. Its proximity to NUS and the research cluster brings a highly educated parent community. Phase 2C ballots heavily even within the 1 km band.

Nan Hua Primary School

Nan Hua Primary in Clementi is both a GEP centre and an SAP school. Strong bilingual education and consistent academic results make it highly competitive. Particularly popular with families in the Clementi–West Coast corridor.

Fairfield Methodist School (Primary)

A mission school in Buona Vista with a strong reputation for values education and academic outcomes. Popular with both Christian and non-Christian families in the West.

Hidden Gem: Jurong Primary School

A solid neighbourhood school in Jurong East that rarely ballots. Good academic outcomes and a wide CCA offering — a good choice for families in the Jurong corridor who want certainty over a lottery.

North-East Region

Sengkang and Punggol are among Singapore's fastest-growing housing estates, bringing increased demand for primary schools in the North-East.

Rosyth School

Rosyth School in Hougang is the North-East's flagship GEP centre school. It has a long academic tradition and draws families from across the region. Phase 2C is competitive, particularly for the within-1km priority band.

Yu Neng Primary School
