Junior College L1R5 Cut-Off Points

2022–2024 cut-off scores for all Singapore Junior Colleges.

About JC Admissions and L1R5 Scoring

After completing their O-Levels, Singapore students who wish to pursue the A-Level route apply to Junior Colleges through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE). Admission is based on the L1R5 score — the sum of grades for one language subject (L1) and five relevant subjects (R5). Students may deduct bonus points for CCA achievements and other eligibility criteria.

How L1R5 is Calculated

L1 is your best language grade (English or Mother Tongue, graded 1–8 in O-Levels, where 1 = A1 and 8 = F9). R5 are five other relevant subjects based on your intended JC course. The lower your total L1R5 score, the better — a score of 6 means you earned mostly A1s across your subjects.

Beyond Cut-Off Points

  • CCA commitments: Active CCAs can earn bonus points reducing your effective L1R5 score.
  • Subject combinations: Different JCs offer different H2 subject options. Ensure your target JC offers the subjects relevant to your university aspirations.
  • School culture: Some JCs have strong arts and humanities traditions; others are science and engineering focused.
  • Location and commute: Daily travel time adds up over two years. Consider proximity to your home.
